Principles of Panchakarma

Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment designed to eliminate excess Dosha from the body, strengthen digestion and metabolism, cure diseases, and restore health. It enhances sensory faculties, mental clarity, and intelligence. Additionally, it increases strength, robustness, vitality, and slows down aging, maintaining health into old age. Originally reserved for royal families in ancient India, Panchakarma was used to preserve vitality and youth.

What is Panchakarma?

The first is the preparatory phase. In this phase, there will be a change to a vegetarian diet, eliminating coffee, dairy, and flour. We must take a medicated ghee preparation and specific herbs to help the body release toxins from where they are diffusely stored so they can be eliminated in the second phase. This medication is administered in increasing doses each day until it reaches the tissues and releases the toxins back into the body.

The second is the cleansing phase. This is the detoxification phase that includes the five detoxification procedures [pancha] [karmas]. They are induced vomiting, purgation, nasal purge, and medicated enema. The number of days and the frequency with which the therapy needs to be repeated will be decided by a doctor. Additionally, not all individuals may need all five procedures, which is also determined by the doctor after a detailed evaluation.

The third and final phase is the recovery phase. This phase focuses on helping the body heal and settle into its innate natural rhythm. Nutritive herbal supplements and organic Ayurvedic food will revive, refresh, and rejuvenate the mind and body with a renewed surge of vital energy.

During these three phases of the retreat, you will undergo various oil massage therapies and other Ayurvedic treatments. There will be daily consultations with doctors, as well as Ayurveda yoga and meditation.

A complete classic Panchakarma program lasts 4 weeks and is especially recommended for patients suffering from chronic and resistant diseases. However, it can also be done for 10 to 15 days, depending on the type of problem.

Nevertheless, a healthy person who wishes to enjoy a traditional Ayurvedic treatment that includes detoxification for their well-being can undergo a special Panchakarma treatment.
